Why families choose Bridge City

A modern practice that combines clinical depth, technology, and a genuinely Portland welcome.

Expansion without surgery (MARPE)

A narrow upper jaw used to mean extractions — or jaw surgery for older patients. With miniscrew-assisted palatal expansion, Dr. Vo can often widen the jaw at the bone level, non-surgically, for many teens and adults.

Your case, designed in 3D first

Before we move a single tooth, we map your whole treatment digitally — and can often show you a simulated preview of where it's headed. (Simulations are for illustration; actual results vary.)

Designed digitally, delivered fast

Because we 3D-print appliances and aligners in our own office, there's less waiting between a refinement scan and your next set — and your doctor controls every step, not an outside lab.

Not a chain. Not a franchise.

Meet Dr. Alex Vo

Dr. Vo trained right here in Portland — both his dental degree and his orthodontic residency at OHSU — and built Bridge City to practice the way care should feel: unhurried, precise, and genuinely yours.

Residency-trained and master's-prepared, he pairs technology he loves — 3D planning, in-office aligners, MARPE, TADs for complex cases — with the time to explain every option in plain language. You'll always meet the doctor and know your cost before you decide.

Questions, answered

The things Portland families ask us most.

How much do braces or aligners cost in Portland?

Most comprehensive treatment at Bridge City runs roughly $4,500–$8,500, depending on complexity and the option you choose. Minor cases land lower; complex cases run higher. We give you exact, all-in pricing at your free consultation — no obligation.

Does dental insurance cover orthodontics in Oregon?

Often, yes. We're in-network with most major plans, and many include a lifetime orthodontic benefit (commonly around $1,000–$2,000+) for kids and adults. We verify your specific benefit and file the claims for you. For children on the Oregon Health Plan, orthodontic coverage is limited to medically necessary cases.

What's the difference between Invisalign, Spark, and Angel?

They're all clear-aligner systems, and each has strengths — some teeth move best on one platform, others on another. Because we work with all of them (plus in-office aligners), Dr. Vo picks the right fit for your bite instead of fitting you to a single brand.

How long will treatment take?

Many patients are in treatment around 12–24 months, with simpler cases finishing faster. Very complex cases — including those paired with jaw surgery — can run up to about 30 months. After your 3D scan, Dr. Vo gives you a personalized timeline.

What age should my child first see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first check-up by age 7. Most kids won't need treatment yet, but an early look lets us guide jaw growth while it's easiest. Since the first visit is free, peace of mind costs nothing.

Do I need a referral from my dentist?

Nope — an orthodontist is a specialist you can see directly. We're happy to coordinate with your dentist, but you can book a free consultation anytime.

Can adults really get braces or aligners?

Absolutely — a big share of our patients are adults, and it's never too late. Modern aligners and ceramic braces make treatment far more discreet and comfortable than most adults expect, and we build it around your work and life.

What is MARPE, and am I too old for palatal expansion?

MARPE — miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion — widens a narrow upper jaw by anchoring a small expander to the bone of your palate, not just your teeth. Because it works at the bone level, it can achieve real skeletal expansion for many older teens and adults who'd otherwise need jaw surgery. Candidacy comes down to a 3D scan, which Dr. Vo reviews with you.
